Retail Display Design

Retail display design for Niviru’s fragrance collection, developed from concept to final fabrication as a physical brand touchpoint for retail environments.

Context

Niviru is a young fragrance brand aiming to bring a youthful yet timeless approach to the world of perfumery. While this identity was already well established through their fragrances, marketing, and digital presence, the goal of this project was to translate that language into a physical in-store product.

The project consisted of designing a retail perfume display for their full collection of five bottles, conceived as a brand touchpoint capable of standing out in competitive retail environments.

Challenges

The main challenge was transforming an abstract brand identity into a tangible object.

Niviru had a clear vision of what they wanted to communicate as a brand, but not yet how that vision should be expressed in three dimensions. The display needed to feel distinctive without being loud, disruptive while remaining timeless, and robust enough to withstand daily in-store use.

Additionally, the solution had to balance visual impact, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and long-term durability.

Solutions

The final solution is a retail display built around a simple and geometric formal language, designed to feel subtle, elegant, and unique while maintaining strong presence inside the store.

The system combines two main materials:

  • A metal structure, referencing the brand’s laboratory background and technical rigor

  • 3D-printed elements painted in Paris green, Niviru’s corporate color, reinforcing innovation, accessibility, and new technology

The design supports the full five-bottle collection while keeping the bottles visually elevated and clearly framed within the display.

Design Development & Feasibility

The project began with an initial brand briefing and a sketch provided by the client, followed by multiple design proposals that explored more disruptive formal directions while respecting the original intent.

After early form and CMF comparisons in KeyShot, the direction was refined toward a more restrained and timeless solution based on basic geometric volumes. This shift allowed the display to better represent the brand and remain visually relevant over time.

Special attention was given to real-world constraints such as ergonomics, proportions, and material behavior in a retail context.

Fabrication & Production

Once the final design was validated through renders, the project moved into production.

The display is composed of four main parts: one metal sheet component and three 3D-printed parts designed to precisely hold and locate the metal structure. The division into three printed pieces responds both to printer size limitations and to the strategic placement of parting lines so they remain visually hidden once assembled.

The 3D-printed parts went through a full post-processing workflow including sanding, priming, painting, and varnishing. To improve durability and usability, painted surfaces were intentionally kept away from direct contact with the bottles, reducing wear over time. Silicone pads were added to the base to prevent slipping and extend the lifespan of the product in-store.

Outcome

The final result is a physically manufactured retail display that successfully translates Niviru’s brand identity into the physical space.

The project bridges branding, industrial design, and real fabrication, resulting in a durable, distinctive, and production-aware object that enhances brand presence and visibility within retail environments.
